Laying to Sitting

Instruct the person being assisted what you are going to do and how they can help perform the assist.

Step 1:

While the patient is laying down, slide their legs over the side of the bed. The caregivers can then position themselves beside the bed, at about the waist of the patient.

Step 2:

The caregivers will then bend over at the waist instructing the patient to grab the Helping Handles farthest from them.

Step 3:

Now the caregivers can either brace themselves against the bed and let the patient pull themselves up to a seated position (allowing the patient to control the maneuver at their own pace and comfort level) or the caregivers can assist by reaching around the patient to support their upper back and assist them by leaning backward.
